Jane Ellen Hoffa
(August 13, 1928 - October 24, 2020)

Jane Ellen (Fall) Hoffa died peacefully at her home October 24, 2020. She was born in Racine WI August 13, 1928. Her parents were John W. and Jennie (Evans) Fall. The family moved to Burlington, IA in 1939. Jane graduated from Burlington High School in 1946 and obtained an AA degree from Burlington Junior College in 1948. She then attended the University of Iowa, graduating with a BA in English. While at the University she joined Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. Over her career she acquired additional education of 30 hours of post graduate course work.
Jane met Daniel C. Hoffa on a blind date while at the University of Iowa and they married in 1951. They moved frequently for his work with B. F. Goodrich Company, living in multiple towns in Illinois, Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska. They had 3 children: Dan Jr. and wife Esther Hoffa of Indianola, Robert (deceased) and wife Debra Hoffa of Carmel IN, and Sara and husband Ernie Schillinger of Johnston, IA. Jane had 7 grandchildren; Rhiannon, Angela, Christina, Elizabeth, Jessica, Kimberly, and Matt; and 4 great-grandchildren; Aaron, Lucas, Carter, and Gwen.
Between 1964 and 1981, Jane taught 8th grade English in Bettendorf, IA and Downers Grove, IL. After their retirements from Goodrich and teaching, Jane and Dan owned and operated three retail establishments in Le Mars, IA from 1981 until 2003. Jane was active in that community, joining PEO chapter NQ, serving as President of the Le Mars Women’s Club, serving as a Deacon and Elder at the Le Mars Presbyterian Church of Christ, and serving on the Board and as President of the Le Mars Public Library. She also volunteered as an ESL teacher while in Le Mars. Jane moved to Indianola, IA in 2008 after the death of Dan in 2007. They were married for 56 years. She was active in Indianola, serving as a volunteer at the Balloon Museum and serving a term on the Friends of the Indianola Public Library Board. She participated in Questers, Clio Club and Shakespeare Club. She had many hobbies, being a self-taught but accomplished watercolor painter, a voracious reader, a genealogist, and enjoyed wood carving and other artistic crafts. Jane loved to travel and had a wonderful sense of humor.
The family will hold a grave-side service in Burlington, IA at a later date. Memorials may be sent in Jane’s name to the Kiya Koda Humane Society of Indianola or to the Le Mars Public Library.
