Heart Attack Is Fatal To Charles B. Dyke
Funeral services for C. B. Dyke, 72, Warren County assessor, were held Monday afternoon at the Overton Funeral Home. The Indianola Rescue Squad was summoned to the Dyke home last Wednesday morning to administer oxygen after Mr. Dyke had suffered a heart attack. He was taken Thursday afternoon to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines where he died Friday. Mr. Dyke had served as county assessor for 5 ˝ years, having been appointed June 10, 1955, to fill out the unexpired term of Kenneth Smith under whom he had served as assistant assessor. Mr. Dyke had submitted his resignation to become effective Monday, Dec. 12.

He had also served as county auditor. He was nominated for the short and regular terms by the Warren County Republicans in convention following the resignation of County Auditor, Abe Traub in July 1946. Mr. Dyke was elected to that office in November of 1946 and served one term. He had been deputy under Traub for 2 ˝ years.
Mr. Dyke was born in Indianola and was educated in the Indianola schools and at Simpson College. With his father, who was a grocer in Indianola for many years, he established the store which was later bought by the late William Hamilton and Hobart Ross. The store was located in the building now occupied by the Warren County Bank & Trust Co., and was the start of the United Food Market chain. Mr. Dyke was in the dairy business on a small farm at the east edge of Indianola before he entered the auditor’s office. His first wife died about two years ago and he was married Oct. 6 to the former Miss Ivie Moon, who survives him.
