Obituary – Rosella Tadlock
Rosella Engle, daughter of John and Abigal Engle, was born July 15, 1867 and passed away at her home in Newbern December 5, 1946, at the age of 79 years, 4 months and 20 days. She was united in marriage to John W. Shounkwiler April 26, 1899 and to this union four children were born, three of whom survive. Her husband passed away March 25, 1894. She was again united in marriage to Joe Tadlock July 18, 1898. Those who remain to mourn her passing are two daughters, Iona Ohnemus and Maggie Stierwalt and one son, George Shounkwiler, all of Newbern, also 15 grandchildren. Her husband, one daughter, Pearl, wife of Lee Kirton, the parents, two sisters and one brother preceded her in death. In early life she accepted Christ as her Savior and united with the Presbyterian Church and has lived a faithful Christian life through her declining years. She was always ready to attend services somewhere. Her life was one of sacrifice and love for others, never tiring in the care of her home and loved ones, always a friend and neighbor to those in need, ever a devoted mother to her children. Mrs. Tadlock had been in failing health for about four years and had been so tenderly cared for in the homes of her daughters. During her long illness she was patient, never complaining. She will be greatly missed in the home circle and by her many friends, but our loss is heaven’s gain. The tired white hands are folded, her earthly work is o’er, at home with Christ and loved ones upon the other shore. God saw the road was getting rough, the hills were hard to climb. He gently closed her dear tired eyes and whispered “Peace be thine,” Treasured thoughts of her so dear often bring a silent tear; thoughts return to scenes now past, time rolls on but memory lasts.
Funeral services were held at the Newbern Federated Church December 8, at 2:00 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Mark Campbell of Fairfield. Those attending final rites from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. John A. Engle, Mrs. Virgil McDonnell, Mrs. Loyd Burgett, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Roberts, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Vantress and Mildred Sargent of Dallas [Marion County, Iowa[; Mr. and Mrs. Carl McNay of Winterset; Mr. and Mrs. Omer Huron, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Oxenreider and Minta Hunnerdosse, all of Indianola; Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Butrum of Pleasantville; Mr. and Mrs. Roy James and family of Carlisle; Gerald Sargent of Omaha, Neb.; Virginia Sargent and family of Liberty Center; Ronald Stierwalt and family of Osceola; Earl Ohnemus of Waterloo; and the Rev. and Mrs. Holms of Newton
