Obituary – Lura Almeta Lykins
Lura Almeta, eldest daughter of Charles William and Henrietta Mumford, was born May 23, 1867 in Lucas County, Iowa, and passed away at the home of her daughter at Knoxville, Iowa, on May 1, 1946, at the age of 78 years, 11 months and 8 days. On November 30, 1887, she was united in marriage to George Walter Lykins. To this union three children were born, two of whom, Ethel and Harry, and her husband, have preceded her in death. She was converted by Rev. Butterfield August 1912, and united with the Oakley Methodist church. She continued a faithful member until her death. Her life was one of sacrifice, and good deeds, and she was happy when she could make someone’s life a bit brighter. Though her suffering was intense, she bore it with patience unending, but after all that tender hands and loving hearts could do, she answered God’s call. Those left to mourn her passing are one daughter, Mrs. Maude Loney of Knoxville, Iowa, two grandchildren, Mrs. Blanche Quigley of Knoxville, Iowa, and T-5 [Technician 5th grade in the U.S. Army] Roy Loney of Gmunden, Austria. Also two great grandchildren, Robert Quigley of Knoxville, Iowa; and Virginia Loney of Chariton. Two sisters, Mrs. Maude Seaton and Mrs. Willa Daugherty, both of Chariton. Mrs. Lykins was a lifelong resident of Lucas County until the last 8 months. She was a good wife, a loving mother, and a kind friend and is mourned not only by those of her immediate family, but by a host of other friends and relatives. Funeral services in charge of the Rev. James Robinson, were held Friday, May 3, at 2:00 p.m. at the Fred Dunshee and Son Funeral Chapel. Burial was in the Newbern Cemetery. Relatives attending from a distance were: Mrs. Raymond Lykins of Albany, Mo., and Mrs. Kermit Williamson of Stansberry, Mo.
