George W. Lykins
George Walter Lykins was born August 27, 1863 in Gentry County, Missouri, and passed away at Chariton, Iowa on March 14, 1940 at the age of 76 years, 7 months and 11 days. Mr. Lykins had been a resident of Lucas County for 66 years, making his home on a farm near Oakley for 45 years and his residence here in Chariton for 21 years. On November 30, 1887 he was united in marriage to Lura Mumford. To this union three children were born, two of whom, Ethel and Harry, preceded him in death. Those left to mourn his passing are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Maude Loney of near Oakley, two grandchildren and one great grandchild, one half brother, Elmer Burgett of near Oakley; and one-half sister, Mrs. Leta Fogle of near Lacona. Mr. and Mrs. Lykins had been married for 52 years. He was a good husband, a loving father and a kind friend and is mourned not only by those of his immediate family but by a host of other friends and relatives. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Donald McKay, of the Christian Church, were held at the Dunshee Funeral Home Saturday afternoon at two o’clock and burial was in the Newbern Cemetery. Relatives from a distance in attendance at the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. Fount Alexander and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lykins, all of Albany, Mo.; James Lykins and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lykins of Stanberry, Mo.; and Kermit Williamson of Gentry, Mo.
