Funeral Held Sun. For John Short
Services for John W. Short, 74, of Ackworth, who died Friday at his home, were held Sunday, Sept. 22, at 2:30 at the Overton Funeral Home. The Rev. Neil Myers, pastor of the Ackworth Friends Church, was in charge. Mr. Short had been ill for some time but worked until two weeks ago when he had to give up his work as a blacksmith. Mr. Short had followed the blacksmith trade for more than 50 years. He had had a blacksmith shop at Ackworth the past 47 years. Mr. Short lived in Warren County all of his life. Survivors include his wife, one son, Floyd, of Des Moines and a daughter, Lila Marie.

John Wilbur Short, son of Washington Short and Rebekah Waugh Short, was born six miles northeast of Indianola Jan 14, 187?. At the age of six months his family moved to Indianola and there he attended the Indianola schools. In 1894 he married Emma Jane Lee, and to this union were born two children, Lilian [Lila] Marie Short and Floyd Lee Short. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Ackworth, Iowa and by profession of faith joined the Friends Meeting. For 54 years he was a capable blacksmith and of these years were carried on in his service the Ackworth community. He died Sept. 20 in his home. Surviving are his wife, his two children and three grandchildren, Ivan Eugene, Ruth Elaine and Jean Ann Short. He is also survived by one brother, Jim Short of Indianola, and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Rodgers of Ordville, Calif., and Mrs. Ina Erb of Miller, S. D. Services were held Sunday Sept. 20, at the Overton Funeral Home. The Rev. Neil Myers, pastor of the Ackworth Friends Church was in charge of the service.
