Roy Edward Martin
(November 24, 1895 – May 18, 1946)

Roy Edward Martin was born Nov. 24, 1895, and died May 18, 1946, at the age of 50 years, 5 months and 24 days. He was born at Dunbar [Marshall County, Iowa} and when a small child moved with his parents to a farm south of Marshalltown where he spent his boyhood days. They then moved to Marshalltown where he attended a business college. He was a veteran of World War I, enlisting in the marines. He served nearly four years in Florida and Cuba. July 8, 1930, he was united in marriage to Ruby Mae Dann at Toledo. To this union one daughter, Doris, was born. The family moved to Indianola in December 1937, where Roy opened a machine shop. He was found and skipper of the Sea Scouts, ship No. 50, and built a boat for the scouts to use on Lake Ahquabi. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and was serving as a deacon. He was also a member of the Masons, I.O.O.F., the American Legion, the Marine Corps League of Des Moines, and was especially interested in the V. F. W. which he helped organize. His family and host of friends can testify of his many acts of kindness for he was never too busy or too tired to render service to any one in need. His father and mother and only sister preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife; daughter, Mrs. Doyle Downey of Newton; a granddaughter, Linda Marie Downey, also of Newton; two brothers, Ted of Clearwater, Fla., and Amil of Nampa, Ida; many other relatives and a multitude of friends. Services were conducted by the Rev. W. T. Martin Tuesday, May 21, at 10:30 at the Presbyterian Church. Interment was in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo.
