Elva Ann Town
(March 13, 1880 – March 27, 1946)

Mrs. James W. Town
Elva Ann Town, daughter of S. F. and Charity Griffin, was born on a farm near Colo, Story County, Iowa, March 13, 1880, and died March 27, 1946, at the age of 66 years, 14 days. She had been in poor health for the past 10 or 12 years and succumbed suddenly to a heart attack, while visiting at the home of her son, Virgil, in Des Moines. Mrs. Town was one of a family of seven children. She had been a member of the Christian Union Church of Milo for 20 years, where she was still a member at the time of her death. Sept. 1, 1897, she was united in marriage to James W. Town of Nevada, Iowa. To this union 10 children were born, three daughters, Roxey Mullinex of Ottumwa; Myrtle Curtis and Sylvia Dewey of Des Moines; and seven sons, Wilbur of Boise, Idaho; and Frank, Virgil, Robert and Raymond, all of Des Moines; and seven sons and Homer preceded her in death. Mrs. Town was devoted to her family. Her main interests were in her home and children. Besides her husband and children, she is survived by 24 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Elmore, Nevada, and Mrs. Alta Jensen, Lake Crystal, Minn.; and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 29, from White’s East Side Funeral Home, Des Moines, Interment was at Nevada [Iowa].
