Joseph Silvester Wilbur
(February 2, 1859 – March 6, 1946)

Joseph Silvester Wilbur, son of Josial and Louisa Wilbur, was born in Marion County, Feb. 2, 1859, and died March 6, 1946, at the age of 87 years, 1 month and 4 days. When he was 6 years old his parents moved to Sandyville where he grew to manhood. Dec. 27, 1880, he was united in marriage to Amminta Hornaday. To this union was born nine children as follows: Ray Wilbur, Mrs. Cora Fetters, Mrs. Dollie Culbertson, and Cornie Wilbur, Indianola; Mrs. Daisy Wells, Red Oak; Mrs. Inez Thompson, Mitchellville; Charles, Clarence and Ted Wilbur, Des Moines. There are also 31 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Flora Cottrell of Melcher. They spent 22 years on a farm near Sandyville with the exception of one year at Herndon. In 1902 they moved to a farm near Milo and in 1918 to Milo where they lived until Feb. 20, 1943, then going to Indianola. In 1930 Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. They were both converted in Christian Union church at Sandyville in their early married life and were faithful workers in the church as long as health permitted. Mrs. Wilbur died Jan. 5, 1938. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, March 10, at 2 o’clock at the Jackson Funeral Home, Milo, in charge of the Rev. E. W. Collyer. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery at Milo.
