John B. Elliott
(July 5, 1880 – December 26, 1945)

John B. Elliott, a resident of Carlisle for 48 years, died at his home Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 26. He had been in poor health for some time and suffered a stroke from which he failed to rally. He was 64 years of age. John Elliott was born July 5, 1880, near Ames, Story County, Iowa, the son of Lydia Jane Bard and Matthew Elliott. The family moved to Carlisle when John was 17. He became a member of the Methodist church at Colfax in 1911, later uniting with the Methodist church at Carlisle under the pastorate of the late Rev. A. E. George. He was married Oct 28, 1908, to Minnie Adkins. He is survived by his wife and all seven of their children: Mrs. Ethel Saemisch, Chula Vista, Calif.; Mrs. Jessie B. McIntyre, Hartford; Cpl. Thomas M. Elliott, now serving with the armed forces in Europe; J. Virgil Elliott, Mrs. Mary E. Hedlund, and Mrs. Margaret J. Greene, all of Des Moines; and Pvt. W. Clifford Elliott, now stationed at Ft. Sheridan, Ill. Surviving him also are two sisters and a brother, Mrs. Laura Sharp of Ames, Mrs. Lillie Chamberlin of Norfolk, Neb., and William Elliott of Ft. Ripley, Minn. There are six grandchildren. The community will miss a respected citizen, and the neighbors will feel deeply the loss of a good friend. He was a beloved husband and father, rich in the devotion of his family. Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 29, 1944, at 2 p.m. at the Carlisle Methodist church, with the Rev. E. E. Josten in charge. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Thomas furnished the music. Interment was in the Carlisle cemetery.
