Mrs. Elia V. Murray
Mrs. Elia Viola Williams Murray was born Jan 25, 1872, near Lacona, Iowa and died Dec. 22, 1944, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Eva Gubser of Earlham, Iowa, at the age of 72 years, 10 months and 22 days. She was one of ten children of David H. and Mary E. Williams. Mrs. Williams is survived by six of her eight children: Mrs. Gubser, Earlham; Mrs. Levi Bumgarner, Milo; Martin Hall, Milo; Mrs. Guy Williams, Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Austin Lucky and Mrs. Fred Beeler, Gary, Ind. One son Walter and one daughter, Dow, preceded her in death. Other survivors include five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and her oldest sister, Mrs. Nettie Jenkins, Lacona. She was a member of the Methodist Church and the Rainbow Rebekah lodge of Lacona. Mrs. Murray discharged the duties of her home as a kind, patient, loving mother and to her community and friends with such thoughtfulness of others that endeared her to all who knew her. Whether helping in the Red Cross rooms, at religious services, social functions or a chance meeting on the street, her smile and cordial greeting will always be remembered. Brief funeral rites were held Tuesday morning, Dec 26, in the S. C. Welch Funeral home at Earlham and services Tuesday afternoon in the Methodist church in Lacona with the Rev. Reed Kessler of Stuart officiating. Interment was in the Cochran Cemetery. [copied from a scrapbook at the Warren County Historical Society Library, Indianola, IA]
