Mrs. Cash E. Hodson
Wilma Marguerite Pope, daughter of Thomas E. and Anna Starbuck Pope, was born March 3, 1900, and died Jan. 12, 1945, at the age of 44 years, 10 months, and 9 days. The early years of her life were spent in the Brown’s chapel community south of Indianola. On Feb. 4, 1919, she was united in marriage to Cash Edward Hodson. They settled in Ackworth neighborhood where they spent 25 of their 26 years of married life. To them was born one daughter, Ruby Laurel. Wilma Hodson was a Christian from earliest childhood. At the age of 12 she became a member of Brown’s Chapel Methodist Church. That relationship was maintained until Nov. 1944, when she requested that her letter be transferred to the Methodist Church at Indianola where her husband and daughter hold memberships. The years at Ackworth were spent in much active service in the church and community affairs. A Sunday School class of young people, which she taught for several years, remained until the last, one of her choicest memories. Mrs. Hodson was very active in the Legion Auxiliary of Warren Post No. 165. She served in various offices, including that of the President in the year 1941. She was also very active in various county and neighborhood clubs. Mrs. Hodson is survived by her husband; daughter, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas E. Canada, and Robert Edward Pope of Madison, Sask., Canada. Mrs. Hodson’s life has left its mark in the community in which she lived; a mark of the noblest. Her friendships were marked by love, kindness, sincerity. In the home there was a sacred bond of loyalty, generosity, a devotion to the right. Hers was a simple religion, full of trust, hope and love which carried her through months of suffering with words of encouragement to those near and dear to her. Her love of nature and colors was a gift which brought her comfort, peace and strength. [copied from a scrapbook at the Warren County Historical Society Library, Indianola, IA]
