Edward Clark
(December 2, 1871 – December 27, 1944)

Edward Clark, son of Hibert and Jane Clark, was born December 2, 1871, at Carlisle, Iowa, and died at the Avenue Nursing home, Des Moines, Iowa, Dec. 27, 1944, at the age of 73 years, 25 days. He lived on a farm five miles south of Carlisle, until 1930. He was united in marriage to Eldora May Deaton on March 2, 1893. To this union nine children were born; five daughters and four sons. They are Ruby McNatton, Fernald, Iowa; Pearl Blake and Kate Burgett, Des Moines; Harold and Dorris Clark, Indianola, Lelia Clopton, Oskaloosa, Iowa; Wilma Renfrow, Bell Gardens, Calif.; DeLoss Clark, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and Harry Clark with the armed forces overseas. His wife preceded him in death in 1927. A few years after her death he came to Des Moines to make his home. He and his wife became members of the Christian Church of Carlisle in their early married life and continued steadfast Christians all through their lives. He suffered a stroke four and one half years ago, and bore his suffering patiently. He always appreciated everything that was done for him by his family and the ones he learned to love so well at the nursing home. He was a kind and loving father, and was loved by all his friends. Through his sickness he often spoke of being ready to go to be with his Savior. After coming to Des Moines he placed his membership with the Open Bible church at Ft. Des Moines. He is survived by his nine children; one brother, Fountain Clark, Carlisle; 19 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and a large number of relatives and friends. Funeral services were held from the Christian church, Carlisle, Dec. 29, 1944, conducted by the Rev. Frank Smith of the Open Bible church, Des Moines. Interment was in the Palmyra Cemetery. The pall bearers were Ray Ellison, Clair Ellison, Draper Clark, Lester Clark, Lennie Gibbons and Lester Clark, Lennie Gibbons and Lester Bartholomew. Music was by Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Thomas.
