Estey Jane, eldest daughter of John H. and Lovina Spurgin, was born April 1, 1893, near Milo, and died in the same vicinity Dec 2, 1944 at the age of 51 years, 8 months and 1 day. At the age of 16 she became a member of the Christian church at Sandyville and transferred to the Christian Union church at Milo in 1923. She had always been a cheerful willing worker in all activities of the church. She was united in marriage to Ray Mosher Dec 25, 1912. To this union four children were born: Carl J. Mosher, Seaman first class, in the United States Navy; LaVaughn Feight and Mildred Cassidy of Long Beach, Calif., and Wilma Kubli of Milo. Although their homes and duties are widely scattered they were all able to be with their mother during the last weeks of her illness. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, one brother and one sister. Those left to mourn her passing are her husband; her four children; one daughter-in-law, Pauline Mosher; three sons-in-law, Harold Feight, Dean Cassidy and Wayne Kubli; and her two grandsons, Don and Guy Mosher, of whom she was very fond; two brothers, Leo E. Spurgin of Sandyville and Don J. Spurgin of Orange, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Charles Knox of Long Beach, Calif.; besides a host of other relatives and friends. Her life was characterized by the virtues of Christian motherhood. She well deserved the name of a faithful wife and devoted mother and grandmother. She was diligent in the Christian training of her children. She will be greatly missed in the home, in her church and community. Services were held Tuesday, Dec. 5, at the Christian Union church in Milo. Interment was at Sandyville. [copied from a scrapbook at the Warren County Historical Society Library, Indianola, IA]
