(January 21, 1873 – December 21, 1944)

Ged Butterfield Taken by Death; Funeral is Sat.
Was Former Member of County Board and at one Time was Postmaster at Palmyra
Gerry D. “Ged” Butterfield, 71, former supervisor of Warren County, died at the General hospital in Des Moines Thursday morning after an illness of several weeks. Mr. Butterfield was born on a farm near Palmyra Jan. 21, 1873, and had lived all of his life in that part of the county.
Palmyra Postmaster
He kept a store in Palmyra for many years and was postmaster when that town had a post office. He purchased the farm on which he and his wife were living about five years ago. Before that he managed a farm owned by Alex Pendry. Mr. Butterfield also owned a farm south of Indianola. He was elected supervisor in 1932 and served one three-year term, 1933, 34 and 35. At the time he served it was the only period in the history of the county that there were two democrats on the board. Luther Williams was the other democratic member.
Surviving Relatives
Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Lois Parks of California, who came Wednesday; three sisters, Mrs. May Nichols of West Des Moines, Miss Callie Butterfield and Mrs. Glenn Campbell of Hartford; four brothers, E. E. of Indianola, Watt, William and Lorie, who live near Hartford. Mr. Butterfield had been in failing health for some time and was taken to the hospital in Des Moines last week. Services will be held Saturday, Dec. 23, at 2 p.m. at the Hartford Presbyterian church. [copied from a scrapbook at the Warren County Historical Society Library, Indianola, Iowa]
