William Whistler
(August 14, 1842 – January 15, 1924)

Obituary
Mr. William Whistler was born in Pennsylvania, August 14, 1842, and passed away at his home in Lacona, January 15, 1924, aged 81 years, 6 months and one day. When about 15 years old he moved with his parents to Monmouth, Illinois. At the age of 19 he heard the call of his country and enlisted in the army, company K, 11th regiment. After about two years of service he received an honorable discharge. A month later he re-enlisted and served his country two years more. A few months following his second discharge he was married to Miss Elizabeth Hanshaw. To them were born four children, a son and daughter preceded him in death. Those left to mourn are his beloved companion, one daughter, Mrs. Emma A. Curter, of Lacona, and one son, James Whistler, of Fleming, Colorado, who was unable to attend the funeral; three grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and a host of friends who extend their sympathy to the bereaved ones. Funeral services were held at the home Thursday, conducted by Rev. Huser, pastor of the M. E. church, with interment at the Fletcher cemetery northwest of Norwood.
