Charles Moffit
(September 22, 1857 – January 9, 1924)

Obituary
Mr. Charles Moffit was born near Glasgow, Henry County, Iowa, September 22, 1857, died at the home of his niece, Mrs. Myrtle McKnight, aged 66 years, 7 months, and 17 days. He was afflicted with loco motor ataxi about a year ago and has been a constant and patient sufferer until death relieved him January 9, 1924. He spent his early life in the vicinity of Glasgow moving when a young man to Ottumwa, where he was engineer on a locomotive and caring for his aged parents until their death, coming to Lacona about 12 years ago and made his home with his sister, Mrs. J. B. Alter and family until her death a little over a year ago, since which time he has been cared for by his niece, Mrs. McKnight. The passing away of Mr. Moffitt is the last of his family. He is survived by an aged aunt at Portland, Oregon; a nephew, Charles Case and family of Des Moines, and a brother-in-law, J. B. Alter and his daughter, Myrtle McKnight, of Lacona. Short funeral services were held at the home by Rev. Hueser early Thursday morning and the remains were taken to Ottumwa for burial and was accompanied by Mrs. McKnight and Mrs. S. A. Ralston. Much sympathy is extended the bereaved relatives as this is the third time the death angel has entered this home in a little over a year.
