Cynthia Matilda Karns
(December 5, 1859 – November 19, 1923)

The sad news of the death of Mrs. Fred Karns reached Lacona early Monday morning, Nov. 19. She passed away at the home of a friend at Melcher where she was staying while taking treatment. Mrs. Karns was formerly Mrs. Houstan Fogle and lived for several years on their farm east of Lacona. Mr. Fogle passed away several years ago. She was married to Fred Karns [Nov 23, 1915 in Lucas County, Iowa] and has made her home on their farm near Newburn for some time, where she has many friends who will mourn for her. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at the Christian Church at Lacona. She leaves her husband and six children: Harry, Earnest and Elwood Fogle, Mrs. Bert Morrow, Mrs. Fred Newman and Mrs. James Pirtle Jr. and several grand children. To these the sympathy of the community is extended.
