James Flack
(September 25, 1843 – October 18, 1923)

Mr. James Flack, an old and respected citizen of the neighborhood southeast of St. Charles, passed away last Thursday. He had been in poor health for some years. The funeral was held Saturday at the Church of Christ at St. Charles, the sermon being given by the pastor, H. L. Kinser, and burial was made in the cemetery southwest of town. The bereaved wife and son have the warmest sympathy of their friends in thei sorrow at the loss of a husband and father.
James Flack, son of John S. and Sarah Flack, was born in Holmes County, Ohio, September 25th, 1843, and departed this life at his home three and a half miles southeast of St. Charles, October 18th, 1923, aged 80 years and 23 days. He came with his parents to Iowa in 1856, locating near Richland, Keokuk County, Iowa. The family afterwards moved from there to Wheeling, Marion County, where he grew to manhood. During the 70’s he was engaged as mail carrier between Wheeling and Knoxville and Wheeling and Indianola, serving the towns between and carrying passengers. He was married to Edna J. Smith of Carlisle, October 8, 1876. Three children came to bless this home, William, who died in 1896, Wesley, who died in 1902, and C. M., who has faithfully cared for his father and mother. The deceased is survived by his wife and one son, of St. Charles, two brothers, John W. and Robert, and one sister, Mary Ann Johnson, of LaHarpe, Kans., and a host of relatives and friends. He was a kind husband and father and was respected and honored by his neighbors and will be missed in the home, community and church. He transferred his membership to the Christian church at St. Charles in 1902.
