Rebecca Jane Martin
(March 5, 1853 – September 29, 1923)

Mrs. J. S. Martin
Rebecca Jane, daughter of Richard B. and Catherine Jane Frary was born in LaPrairie, Marshall County, Ill., on March 5, 1853, being 70 years, 6 months and 24 days old at the time of her death in Indianola, Ia., on September 29, 1923. She was married April 19, 1879 to J. S. Martin of St Charles. To them were born two children, Mary and Percy. Percy died at the age of 4 years. Mr. Martin passes away in 1913. Mrs. Martin was the eldest of a family of six – four brothers and one sister. Her parents and the four brothers preceded her in death, leaving her sister, Mrs. J. R. Davidson of Champaign, Ill., as the only surviving member of the family.
Mrs. Martin became a member of the U. P. [United Presbyterian] Church in LaPrairie when a young girl and has been a very devoted member of the church of her choice ever since. Her devotion, not only to her church, but to her home, was noteworthy. With loving care she ministered to her invalid daughter day by day, thus revealing by her actions the greatness of mother’s love. The daughter has now been bereft of that love, but the love of God which lives and lasts for aye is hers, and to that love we commend her.
