Joseph Anderson Blake
(October 4, 1860 – December 24, 1923)

Joseph Anderson Blake, the fifth child of Joseph and Lucinda Blake, was born October 4, 1860 at Palmyra, Warren County, Iowa, and died at Indianola, December 24, 1923, aged 63 years, 2 months and 20 days. He grew to manhood in Warren County and was united in marriage to Augusta Harding, of Pleasantville, Jan. 1, 1889. To this union were born two sons: Russel of Minneapolis, Minn., and Eric of Pleasantville. Beside these, there remain to mourn his death 10 brothers, George of Atkenson, Nebraska, Eli of Oregon, Grant of Palmyra, Will of Palmyra, Weaver of Glendale, California, Francis of Carlisle, Oliver of Indianola and five sisters, Lydia and Jane of Indianola, Mrs. T. G. Seiver of wick, Mrs. L. F. Goldizen of Anna Belle, Missouri and Nellie of Indianola and two grandchildren and his step-mother, beside many friends and acquaintances. Those who have preceeded him in death are his wife, his parents, three brothers, Benjamin, Anda, John and one sister, Ida.
Joseph Anderson spent his entire lifetime in the vicinity of Palmyra, where he was born and reared. He spent his active life on the farm where he loved to toil and pioneer, in the early history of this county. His closing years he spent in Indianola, making his home with his two sisters, Lydia and Jane. He was a good neighbor and devoted brother and father. The funeral was held Wednesday, December 26, at ten o’clock at the home of Miss Lydia Blake, conducted by Rev. Walter Sheuerman, buried at Palmyra Cemetery.
