Elizabeth McCusker
(1837 – May 13, 1923)

On the close of Mother’s Day, May 13, 1923, another pioneer mother passed away when Mrs. Elizabeth McCusker died at her home in North River, near Lida, after a lingering illness due to complication of old age. Elizabeth Cuttler was born in Ireland in 1837 and was at the time of her death, 82 years old. She came to this country in her early youth and on April 8, 1826 [1866] was married to Ed McCusker, late of Warren County, and came to live in Warren County, where she has lived for 57 years on one place. To this union were born seven children, five of whom are still living, two dying in infancy. During her come and go, seen and lived the hardships and trials of pioneer days. All her life she was a member of the Catholic church, which threw its protecting help about her during all the long years of her life, and bore her peacefully on to her reward. She was a member of the Churchville Church, for 57 years. The funeral, which occurred on Wednesday, May 16, was held at St. Patricks church, owing to the bad condition of the roads, Rev. M. Dugan offering the mass. Grandson and one nephew acted as pallbearers, Paul Dailey, Joe Dailey, Marcus McCusker, Robert McLaughlin, Edward Weidman and Edward Cuttler. Besides her children, Anthony, Nellie, Lizzie, at home and Mrs. J. M. Dailey, Mrs. Frank McLaughlin, she leaves an aged brother, John Cuttler, of Madison County and thirteen grand children.
