John Wesley Erwin
(November 12, 1916 – May 5, 1923)

John Wesley Erwin was born November 12, 1916, in Des Moines, Iowa into the home of James C. and Creta Erwin, the sixth of seven children. Little John, with his parents and brothers and sisters, resided in Des Moines until last year, when they moved to Warren County, making their home five miles south of Hartford. Never a strong child, he has suffered for some time with leakage of the heart. For the last few weeks rheumatism has tortured his little frame with the most severe pain. This disease finally settle around his heart and released his spirit, Saturday morning, May 5, 1923 at 8:45. In the bereaved home remain the father and mother, and four children: Ronald, Nina, Dorothy and James and Mary and Martha deceased. Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should lay his hands on them, and pray; and the disciples rebuked them. But Jesus said, “Suffer the little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me; for to such belongeth the kingdom of heaven. And he laid his hands on them, and departed thence.” Funeral from home south of Hartford. Interment in New Virginia, Iowa, Sabbath afternoon, May 6th 1923, Rev. C. E. Wilson officiating.
