Obituary – Nelson G. Coles
Nelson Gardner Coles, youngest son of William and Lydia Coles, and the last one of eight children, was born near Liberty Center Aug. 25, 1863, and died Sept. 15, 1940, at the age of 77 years and 20 days at the home of his granddaughter, Mrs. Guy E. Stanley, who has tenderly cared for him the past three years. He was united in marriage to Miss Millie Mevaline Edgerton July 27, 1890, who preceded him in death Oct 13, 1937. To this union six children were born of whom three, Ralph, Merle and Luella Marie, preceded him in death. Those surviving are Mrs. A. E. Flesher, Spickard, Mo.; Mrs. G. D. Black, St. Charles; and Mrs. C. L. Dukes, Detroit, Mich.; nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. In time of trouble, illness and death he was always ready and willing to help. Funeral services were held at the Mosher Funeral Home Tuesday at 2 p.m. conducted by the Rev. Mr. Yates of the Nazerene church with burial at Liberty Center cemetery. The pallbearers were Robert O’Brien, Guy Stanley, Garry Black, D. M. Cornell, George Coles and Ralph Gillis. Music was furnished by Darrel Parsons, Creslie Rodgers, Mrs. Frances Haltom and Mrs. Milded Manser with Miss Beatrice Shupe at the piano.
