Henry M. Stewart died Monday, Aug 26, at 3:45 a.m., at the Owen Vickroy home, 14 miles southwest of Indianola. The funeral was held Wednesday morning, Aug 28, at 10:30 at the Overton Funeral Home. Mr. Stewart was born in Warren County and spent almost all of his life here. He was 75 years old. He had been in failing health for some time and suffered a stroke last Thursday. His wife passed away about nine years ago. Mr. Stewart is survived by one sister, Mrs. Hugh Douglas of Indianola, and two brothers, Evan Stewart of Indianola and Tom Stewart of Omaha, Nebr.
Obituary – Henry M. Stewart
Henry M. Stewart, son of Catherine and Thomas Stewart, was born May 3, 1865, in Warren County Iowa, near Indianola and departed this life Aug 26, 1940, at the age of 75 years, 3 months and 23 days. He was one of a family of 12 children, six boys and six girls, all preceding him in death except three, Evan Stewart and Ellen Douglas of Indianola and Thomas Stewart of Council Bluffs. He was married to Laura Simmerman, Dec 26, 1897, who died March 10, 1898. He married Mary Spence Howe Feb 25, 1901, who preceded him in death Oct. 30, 1931. Since the death of his wife he had made his home with his niece, Mrs. Hazel Vickroy, south of Indianola. He was a kind and loving husband and a friend to everyone. He leaves a host of nieces and nephews and friends. He will be missed in the community by all who knew him. Funeral service was held at the Overton Funeral Home on Wednesday morning at 10:30, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Sampson Cocks, pastor of the First Presbyterian church.
