John Harmon Chumbley
(December 3, 1880 – November 14, 1938)

J. H. Chumbley Dies at Woodburn
Osceola – Services for J. H. Chumbley, well known Clarke County farmer, were held from Bethel Chapel by Rev. F. C. McCallon of the Church of Christ Friday afternoon and interment was made in the Bethel Cemetery. Mr. Chumbley was 57 years old. John Harmon, second son of Sam and Jane Chumbley, was born Dec 3, 1880, in Warren County, Iowa and passed away at his home near Woodburn, Iowa, Nov 14, 1938, being 57 years, 11 months and 11 days of age, after a few days of illness. He was united in marriage to Ethel Wharff Jan 22, 1900. They began housekeeping on a farm in Clarke County and has lived here until death. To this union were born 12 children; Homer of Jamison, Leona Burrell of New Virginia, Mabel McBroom of Burlington, Harold of Milo, Doris Powell of Woodburn, Margaret Weaklend of Osceola, Harley, Darlene and Gerald at Home. Alice Lucille, Eugene and an infant baby passed away in infancy. He also leaves to mourn his departure, 11 grandchildren, four sons-in-law, two daughter-in-law, five brothers, Wade, Mead, Namer, Poet, Earl and Ace; two sisters, Flora Carson and Lela Nicholson, several nieces, nephew and other relatives.
