He was united in marriage to Alma Hess, Nov. 30, 1910. To this union were born two children, Arlene La Velle and Ivan Russell. His first wife departed this life July 28, 1920. He was again united in marriage to Mabel L. Gifford Nov. 30, 1922. To this union was born one son, Dean LeRoy. He is survived by his widow; one daughter, Mrs. Arlene Troster of Milo; two sons, Ivan and Dean, both of Milo; one stepdaughter, Erma Vandewater, of Dexter, Ia.; one stepson, Gerald Norris, of Milo; two sisters, Mrs. Grace Heavner, of Knoxville, Ia., and Mrs. Maude Schroeder of Milo; one aunt, Mrs. Ella Town; four step grandchildren, one niece, Florence Arnold; one great-niece, Carolyn Arnold, and a host of other relatives and many friends.
Ernest was converted in his youth at the Springdale Methodist church and afterwards with his family joined the Christian Union church at Milo during the revival meeting conducted by the Rev. Frederick Cooper several years ago. He lived all of his life in and around Milo and was loved by all who knew him. He was never too busy to lend a helping hand to his neighbors. All through his illness he was patient and thoughtful of others. He always had a smile for those who cared for him. Everything was done that loving hands could do, but God has called “Come thou unto me and I will give you rest,” and he answered. He has gone to the home God has prepared for the faithful. Funeral services were held Thursday, April 10, at 2:30 p.m. at the Christian Union Church, the Rev. Jake Garbison and the Rev. C. C. Donaghue, officiating. Singers were Mrs. Maude Motherhead, Mrs. Lizzie Nutting, the Rev. C. C. Donaghue and Bert Nutting. The pallbearers were Charles Robertson, Carl McGraw, Orval Anthony, W. A. Anthony, Harry Thorn and Simon Knouse.
