Obituary – Harriett Amanda Keen
Harriett Amanda, daughter of Moses and Susanna Durnal, was born Sept. 28, 1858, at Loganville, Wis, and passed away at her home in Liberty Township, Clarke County, Ia., Feb. 26, 1939, at the age of 80 years, 5 months and 2 days. She came with her parents to Liberty Center, Ia., when seven years of age and lived her remaining years in Iowa. On Feb. 3, 1880, she was married to Henry Edmund Keen and to this union six children were born, three sons and three daughter: Clarence, Inez, Walter, Faith, Burlin and Beulah. She united with the Christian Union church, the first church at Bethel Chapel, 44 years ago and was a teacher in the Sunday school for a number of years. She was the descendant of a Quaker family.
Those left to mourn her passing are the husband, H. E. Keen; the children, Clarence of Bakersfield, Calif.; Inez Burchett of New Virginia, Walter Keen of Indianola; Faith Jones of New York City; Burlin E. Keen of Des Moines and Beulah Reed of Winterset; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, also many friends and neighbors. The funeral services were held from the Medora church Tuesday, Feb 28, at 2 p.m. and were conducted by the Rev. F. C. McCallon, pastor of the Osceola Church of Christ. Interment was in the Indianola Cemetery.
