BARTLETT D. JENKINS
Bartlett Davis Jenkins, third child of John L. and Mary Jane Jenkins, was born in Chesterville, Morrow County, Ohio, Oct. 31, 1856, and departed this life Jan. 26, 1939, at the age of 82 years, 2 months and 25 days. At the age of 13 years he came to Warren County with his parents who located one mile south of Lacona in a log school house and later moved to a farm closer to Lacona where they resided until his marriage to Paulina Janette Williams on June 27, 1877. To this union were born two children, Jim C., who preceded his father in death April 21, 1909, and a daughter, Mrs. Jessie Shields of Lacona, who, with the widow, survive him. Also surviving are four nieces, Mrs, Kathryn Huey of Akron Colo., Mrs, Musa Starr of Kelly, Ia., Mrs. Imogene West of Chariton, and Mrs. Anna Dunshee of Council Bluffs, and one nephew, Clare Pressley, of Omaha, Neb.
He was a member of the Chariton lodge A.F. & A. M. This year completed the 50th year of his membership in this fraternity. The death of Mr. Jenkins means the passing of a pioneer family of this community. Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist church, conducted by the Masonic lodge, assisted by the pastor, the Rev. Glen Lamb. Music was furnished by a mixed quartet with Miss Beatrice Shupe at the piano. Burial was made in the Cochran Cemetery.
