NATHAN HITE
Nathan Hite, son of John and Prudence Hite, was born in Berkley County, Virginia, August 27, 1841. When nine years old his parents came from Virginia to Henry County, Iowa where he grew to manhood, entering the Civil War in 1862. He was a member of Company B, 25th Iowa Infantry, serving 3 years and 7 days. After being discharged from the service he came to Warren County in 1868, where he settled on a farm east of Liberty Center, living there for 54 years. He was married to Isabelle Kerr July 25, 1869. To them was born one daughter, Alice Ann, who is the wife of Clark Sandy. Mr. Hite’s second wife was Mary Stockton, who passed away August 30, 1914. On June 17, 1919, he was married to Alice Sinnett, and he moved to Indianola , October 15th of the same years, where he passed the remainder of his years surrounded by friends and neighbors. He leaves to mourn their loss a wife and daughter, Anna and husband, grandchildren, Bert Sandy of Valley Junction, and Belva Tigner of Liberty Center, besides four great-grandchildrren, also four sisters, and a half brother, Harry, besides many nieces and nephews and a wide circle of friends. He passed away at his home in Indianola, September 25, 1925, at the age of 84 years and 29 days. Funeral services were held at Liberty Center at 2:30 p.m. Monday, conducted by Dr. H. B. McElree, pastor of the United Presbyterian church of this city. Burial was in the Liberty Center cemetery, with the Odd Fellows of Liberty Center in charge of the services at the grave.
