MRS. C. HAMILTON
Jane Hamilton, daughter of Nathaniel and Elizabeth Porterfield, was born in Clarke County, Ia., Aug. 26, 1860, and departed this life Nov. 20, 1941, at the home of her daughter near Medora, Ia., at the age of 81 years, 2 months, and 25 days. Since August, 1940, she had suffered almost constantly with paralysis with never a word of complaint. Death came unexpectedly and gently relieved her of her suffering. She spent her entire life in Clarke and Warren Counties except the last 11 years which she spent at the home of her daughter, Corda Funderburk, at Des moines. On Dec. 19, 1879, she was united in marriage to Clarence Hamilton who preceded her in death Dec. 15, 1930. To this union 11 children were born, four dying in infancy.
Those left to mourn her passing are two sons, William H. of Des Moines; Glenn of Newton; three daughters, Corda Funderburk, Pearl Shaver and Zola Copeland, all of Des Moines; and Iva Calaway of Indianola. One son, Verne, preceded her in death Aug., 1928. Besides her children she leaves 21 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Harvey Porterfield, of Woodburn; three nieces; one nephew; and a host of friends. She united with the Presbyterian church at Medora in 1888. She later changed her membership to the Christian Union church at Bethel Chapel where she remained a member until her death. She was a kind and loving mother and loved and adored by her grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Bethel Chapel Friday, Nov. 21, 1941, at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. N. D. Gordon of Indianola, Interment was in the Bethel Chapel Cemetery.
