Jasper N. Hargis
(July 18, 1845 – May 6, 1902)

Indianola Herald, Indianola, IA, Thurs., May 8th, 1902, p.7, col.4
Jasper Hargis died at this home in this city Tuesday morning, May 6, 1902, at the age of 58 years. He has been very sick for several weeks and while his death was not unexpected it came to many as a surprise for Mr. Hargis was in the prime of mature manhood and should have lived many years. He was amount the early settlers of Warren County being a citizen of Carlisle during his young manhood but of later years a resident of Indianola. He was a member of the 4th Iowa Infantry during the Civil War and was a good soldier. As a citizen he was quiet, unassuming and regarded by all as an honorable man. As a friend and neighbor none were better or truer, and the many who knew him will heartily endorse this statement. The funeral will occur from the home this Thursday morning at 9 o’clock, Rev. Simmons of the Baptist church officiating. After the services the remains will be taken to Carlisle for burial. The pall bearers were chosen from among his soldier comrades. The arrangements are for the G.A.R. Post and A.O.U.W. order to attend the services in a body, but will not officiate.
