Obituary
Mrs. Lou E. Curtis, was born in Indianola, Iowa, May 22, 1858. She was the youngest of the family of Dr. D. S. Noble, still well remembered by most of our citizens. She spent her girlhood in this town, and was educated in Simpson Centenary College, graduating in the class of 1877. She endeared herself to all her associates by many winning ways, and her uniformly cheerful disposition. The writer of this sketch well remembers her, not only as a successful student, but also as abounding in all those qualities which made it a pleasure to give her instruction.
She was married Nov. 21, 1877, to Mr. C. W. Curtis, with whom she lived some time in Des Moines, afterward in Mass.; and finally they made their permanent home in Denver, Colorado. Here she died Dec. 16, 1884, of dropsy of the brain, after only four weeks of sickness. Her remains were brought to Indianola and buried in our cemetery. Our young friend united with the Presbyterian Church in Indianola, under the pastorate of Rev. Silas Johnson and identified herself, also, with the work of her chosen church in her western home. Thus ends, for us, a promising young life just fairly begun; but to other friends who see better and higher than we, the end of this earth life marks the beginning of a noble existence amid happier surroundings and with superior facilities for endless soul growth.
