Hannah Lee
(Feb 13, 1840 – May 20, 1923)

Mrs. Hannah Smith Lee
Hannah Smith, daughter of John and Sarah Smith, was born in West Virginia, February 13, 1840, and died at her home in Indianola, Iowa, May 20, 1923, having passed the four score years, living to the ripe old age of 83 years, 3 months and 16 days.
As a girl she moved with her parents to Illinois where she grew to womanhood. In 1858 she was united in marriage to James H. Lee. To this union there were born nine children. Those who remain to mourn her loss are 3 sons, William J. and Harvey, of Indianola, and Frank, of Goldfield, Ia., and three daughters, Elizabeth Carpenter, of Des Moines, Susan Lippincott, of Indianola, and Emma Jane Short, of Ackworth, also one brother and one sister, both of Peoria, Ill. Those who have preceded her in death are two children, who died in infancy, another son, George B., her husband, three sisters and three brothers.
She moved to Indianola with her husband and family in 1890 and has been a resident of this place until the time of her death. She united with the Christian Church at Twin Grove, Ill, in 1873 and later united with the same denomination in Indianola. She was a member of that church and a believer in its faith until the time of her death.
She is known to her children to having been a loving, sympathetic mother always interested in their welfare. She was an industrious worker and denied herself much that they might not be in want. Her friends and neighbors know her to have been a good neighbor and a devoted friend. During her lingering illness she patiently and uncomplainingly bore her suffering until she quietly and peacefully passed away, to be with her Redeemer.
