Keith Black
(Mar 18, 1897 – June 1, 1923)

Keith Black, youngest son of R. J. Black and wife, southeast of town, died in the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, June 1, 1923, aged 26 years, two months, and 15 days. Keith and his friend, Earl Smith and the boy’s fathers went to Squaw Creek last Friday to fish. Keith had taken his .22 caliber rifle to shoot turtles. The rifle was accidently discharged and the bullet entered Keith’s head through the left eye. He was rushed to the hospital where he died in a few hours. Funeral services were held in the Christian Church, June 3rd, conducted by Rev. L. L. Gano. Keith was a member of the Christian Church. He leaves his parents, two brothers, two sisters, and many other relatives and friends to mourn his departure. Interment was made in the St. Charles Cemetery.
