John H. Moore
(September 21, 1870 - June 10, 1937)Dr. John H. Moore Passes Thursday
John Henry Moore, son of R. J. W. and Sarah Jane Moore, was born in Warren County, Iowa, September 21, 1870, and passed away June 10, 1937, age 66 years, 5 months and 10 days. He was united in marriage to Mary Griffin, March 10, 1897. To this union were born four children, Ile Brebner, Virgie Sargent, and Juanita Moore, all of Liberty Center, and Maudie, who passed away in infancy. Five grandchildren, Erma Lee, John Richard, and Mary Evelyn Brebner, and Bobby and Leona Sargent survive him. In early manhood he united with the Christian Union church and remained an active member until transference by letter to the Methodist church at Liberty Center, where he remained an active worker in church and Sunday school, serving many years as superintendent of the Sunday school. He was affiliated with the Masonic lodge, and was ever an active member.
In 1902 he entered the college of medicine in Keokuk. Iowa, and upon graduation established a practice at Cool, continuing there until 1909, when he moved to Liberty Center where he completed his life's work. Dr. Moore lived a life of service and self sacrifice. His first thoughts were for others: while health remained the night was never too cold or stormy to keep him from his duty, his chosen mission of carrying relief to his suffering friends and neighbors. He loved his friends and relatives, and will long be missed by those who knew him. His worth will not be estimated in gold and silver, but in precious Iives that he has saved, health restored by his skill and lives that have been made better by his Christian work and example.
His illness was of short duration. Suffering a stroke May 29, he was confined to his bed where he was carefully and tenderly nursed by his faithful wife and daughters. On June 6, it was found advisable to remove him to the hospital at Osceola, where in spite of the best of care he was called to his Heavenly home June 10, about 9 a. m.
Besides his immediate family, his passing is mourned by three brothers and two sisters, Ellen Nevins, Porter, Minn.; Virgie Nevins, Taunton, Minn.; Charles Moore, Des Moines; Richard Moore, Oakland, Calif.; Edd Moore, Dunlap, Iowa. Robert Moore preceded him in death in 1916.
When earth's last picture is painted, and the tubes are twisted and dried, when the oldest colors have faded, and the youngest critic has died, we shall rest, and, faith we shall need it—lie down for an aeon or two, till the Master of All Good Workmen shall set us to work anew! And only the Master shall praise us, and only the Master shall blame: And no one shall work for money, and no one shall work for shame: But each for the joy of working, and each in his separate star, shall draw the thing as he sees It for the God of Things As They Are.
Funeral services were in charge of Mosher of Lacona, with services at the Liberty Center church, conducted by the Rev. Reed Kessler. Interment was made in the I. O. O. F. cemetery at Liberty Center. The Masonic burial service was conducted by Senator Wm. Beardsley of New Virginia, Iowa.
Card of Thanks: We wish to thank our many friends and neighbors for their help and kind expressions of sympathy during the sickness and death of our beloved husband and father. Mrs. J. H. Moore and Juanita, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Brebner, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Sargent.
