Thomas C. Sandy
(April 26, 1891 - February 14, 1941)Thomas C. Sandy, son of John and Amanda E. Sandy, was born near Prineville, Oregon, April 26th, 1891, and departed this life at the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, February 14th, 1941, at the age of 49 years, 9 months and 19 days. He is survived by his wife, one brother, Emory Sandy, of Liberty Center and a host of relatives and friends. On February 26th, 1913, he was united in marriage to Jennie Puderbaugh, of Lacona, Iowa who with her father D. L. Puderbaugh of Lacona, three sisters and two brothers, remain to mourn his passing. His entire life with the exception of the last four years was spent farming near Liberty Center, failing health forced him to cease farming operations in the spring of 1937. After leaving the farm he spent two years in Indianola, Iowa. The last two years had been spent in Des Moines, Iowa, operating an apartment house at 1623 Center street. There, as everywhere else he was able to create true friendship, and was held in high esteem by all who knew him. He was converted and joined the Christian church near Liberty Center, in 1912. But his true religion was the Golden Rule and to be a man among men. He had been a sufferer of asthma for almost twenty years, and during the last two years a serious heart ailment developed which medical skill and science could not overcome. Funeral services were held at the M. E. church at Liberty Center conducted by Rev. Reed Kessler with interment in the I. O. O. F. cemetery. Songs by a quartette composed of Sam Shupe, Charles Thomason, Darell Parkins, and Charles Myers with Miss Beatrice Shupe at the piano.
