Ressie Flesher
(August 23, 1891 - December 6, 1935)

Mrs. Ressie Flesher Buried Monday
Ressie Sumner Flesher was born near Floyd, Virginia, August 23, 1891, and died at Indianola December 6th, 1935, at the age of 44 years, 3 months and 13 days. Her parents came to Iowa in 1895 and settled near Cool where she grew to maturity. She was united in marriage to Louis Flesher March 21, 1917 and to them were born two children, a son, Dwight Louis, and a daughter, Wanda Charlene. The family lived in the Medford vicinity until about three years ago when they moved to Avoca. Mrs. Flesher's health having failed she came to Indianola for treatment last year and it was then learned that she was suffering from an incurable cancer. All things pos sible were done for her but she gradually failed until death set her free from intense suffering. Through all her sickness she maintained a hopeful spirit and when she knew that she could not get well she planned for the future as one who was to make a journey home.
Prayer was the daily practice of her life and a patience and courage were manifest that were truly remarkable, and can only be explained in the fact that the strength to endure for which she prayed was given her by the heavenly Father. Through the years she had been developing a beautiful Christian character, having been converted at a meeting held at the Medford church when she was a young woman. She was baptized and joined the Medford church and it was this faith that held her steadfast unto the end.
Besides the sorrowing husband and the two children she leaves an aged father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Sumner of Lineville, Iowa, a brother, Oris of Oil Mount, Montana, and a sister, Mrs. Charles Jacobs of Clio, Iowa, also numerous friends and relatives.
Beautiful things in this life are manifold 'tis true,
We count the stars by thousands, the birds and flowers too.
The sunsets and the dawnings, rare beauties far and near;
But all the wide world over, there's just one mother dear.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Indianola on Monday, Dec. 9, at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Dr. M. A. Gable conducted the services, assisted by the Rev. N. D. Gordon. Burial was in the Indianola cemetery.
