The funeral service of A. J. "Jackson" Sanders, whose death occurred at his home at Ames Monday evening, was held here Wednesday morning at the Baptist church at eleven o’clock, conducted by Rev. Davison, pastor of the Baptist church at Ames. Interment was made in the Carlisle Cemetery. He was well known in this vicinity, having formerly been a resident of this place for a number of years, and assisted in the improvement of the town, by erecting a number of residence on and near the old school building site. He is survived by his wife and son, Earl of Ames, one sister of Martensdale, and one brother of California. His daughter, Mrs. W. W. Downey, preceded him in death about two months ago. Mr. Sanders had been in poor health for a number of years and his death was due to cancer, of long duration. He was sixty-eight years old.
Mrs. Pit Alkire of Des Moines spent Wednesday with friends here and attended the A. J. Sanders funeral. Mesdames F. E. Thurman, Mary Nelson, Ruth Gates, and Harley and Raymond Clement of Des Moines attended the funeral of their uncle, A. J. Sanders, Wednesday.
[According to his death certificate, Andrew Jackson Sanders was born in Vinton, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Nancy Sanders.]
