Marion Francis Stewart
(December 27, 1867 – January 14, 1923)

Indianola Tribune, January 1923
Marion Francis Stewart was born near Indianola, Warren County, Iowa, on December 27th, 1867 and died at his home in Menlo, Sunday morning January 14, 1923, being only seventeen days since his fifty-sixth birthday. On December 26, 1901, he was married to Miss Daisy Green of Menlo, Iowa, their marriage taking place at Greenfield. To this union were born eight children, six girls and two boys, all of whom survive their father. One daughter, Miss Opal, is in the hospital at Iowa City, where she was taken a few weeks ago for treatment.
Mr. Stewart was a lover of his home and family. He never affiliated with any lodge or church, but was possessed with a kindly spirit. Since his death, the writer of these lines has heard many words of commendation and praise for deeds done and the neighborly spirit shown by him. At the time his daughter Opal was taken to the hospital they both seemed to feel that they were parting to meet no more, but of course it was not the father who was expected to answer the call so soon. It was suddenly, almost without warning that he passed out of this life. Injured in a runaway a few days before his death, his condition did not appear serious at first but late Saturday evening he grew suddenly worse and after hours of intense suffering his spirit left this house of clay and answered the call of his Maker, the call we all must answer. He is survived by his wife and children, two sisters and three brothers: Mrs. Eli Reece of Menlo; Mrs. Ellan Douglas of Indianola; Henry of Indianola; Thomas of Council Bluffs; and Evan of Nebraska. For the past twenty-one years with the exception of only a short time the family have lived in and around Menlo, hence we can add to those who are left, a host of friends who will miss him and sorrow at his going. The funeral was held in the Methodist church, conducted by Rev. Smith, after which the body was laid to rest in the Menlo Cemetery. – The Menlo Journal
