Verna was born in Woodward, Iowa to Melvin T and Gladys C. (Lloyd) Martin. She moved to the Des Moines area as a child where she grew up, worked and met her husband Bernard G. Thomas. They were married July 30th, 1949 and was married 46 years. During that time, they decided to take up farming and moved to the Indianola area in 1956.
Verna loved her life on the farm, loved cooking and canning, and caring for all the animals. She was devoted to family and loved getting together on Sundays for dinner , great conversations and playing canasta. She also enjoyed camping , fishing, and traveling. She made everyone around her feel like family; very loved and always welcomed.
She was the care giver to several family members, mother-in-law Edith Thomas, father Melvin Martin, mother Gladys and step-father Dewey Ford (who turned her into an avid baseball fan of the Cubs and Cardinals!).
She was all around the most energetic, loving, and giving person to all that was privileged to know and love her. We take forward from her those gifts of how to love, care for and enjoy being a part of family and friends forever. This memorial is provided by Overton Funeral Home, 501 West Ashland Ave., Indianola, Iowa, http://www.overtonfuneral.com/
