Marilyn Leora Sterk
(November 25, 1937 - October 21, 2017)

Marilyn Leora Sterk, 79, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 21, 2017, at Unity Point Hospital in Des Moines from complications of Pneumonia. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 26, at the Indianola First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, October 25 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola where family will be present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Leo; sons, Bradley (Terri) Sterk, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Sterk and Matthew Sterk; grandchildren, Jacob, Katie, Mace, Marena, Calvin, Lucas and Samuel; one great-grandchild, Trace. She was preceded in death by her son, Gregory Sterk and her parents. Burial of cremains will be held at a later date in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Marilyn was born in Des Moines and graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1956. She married Leo E. Sterk on August 28, 1960. Upon Leo’s graduation from Iowa State University, they moved to Straubing, Germany while Leo served in the Army. She and Leo settled in Indianola in 1967 to raise their four boys. Marilyn’s joys included holidays with her family and traveling with friends, especially going on cruises. She also enjoyed attending her children and grandchildren’s sporting and school events. Her interests included putting together puzzles, reading and baking.
