Obituary
Rachel, daughter of Nathan and Sarah Richardson, was born in Urbana, Champaign County, Ohio, January 20, 1841, and died at Waukee, IA., July 10, 1912, aged 71 years, 5 months, and 20 days. Her parents moved to Van Buren County, Iowa, about 1844. She was married to Thomas Prall at Keosauqua, Iowa, September 6, 1859. They moved to Johnson County in 1861 where her husband enlisted in the 22nd Iowa Infantry in 1862 and served three years in the war. IN 1887 they located on a farm near Carlisle and remained for a period of seventeen or eighteen years. They next took up their residence in Des Moines. Her in 1900 her husband died. She was the mother of six sons all of whom survive her: Dr. A. A. Prall of Des Moines, N. C. Prall of Carlisle, L. E. Prall of Mason City, C. W. Prall of Carlisle, L. F. Prall of California, and Rev. J. H. Prall of Waukee.
Her church membership was with the Methodist Episcopal denomination from early youth with the exception of the years spent in the vicinity of Carlisle, where she was affiliated with the United Brethren church situated near her home. The larger part of the last year of her life was passed in Indianola. She was loyal to her church, had an abiding faith in her church, had an abiding faith in her Savior and a comforting assurance in her salvation. Her death was caused by cancer of the stomach and occurred in the evening of July 10. When she was apprised of the nature of her malady and realized the near approach of death she expressed both her faith and her submission in the words: “It is all right. If the Lord wants me he can have me.” Funeral services were held in the Methodist Episcopal church of Carlisle July 12, 1912, and interment was made in the cemetery of that place.
