Obituary
Elizabeth Ghormley Laverty was born in Pennsylvania, April 2, 1798 and died in Indianola, Iowa, May 9, 1883. She passed her 85th birthday on the 12th of last month. Mother Laverty was converted and joined the Methodist Episcopal church in 1830 in the state of Indiana. Her house was a preaching place for the itinerants in that early day. Her husband died about 28 years ago. A large family of fourteen children was given them, three of whom are ministers of the gospel. All of the children except one are members of the church. She lived to a remarkable old age. She cultivated a happy, cheerful disposition, and was very devoted in the service of the master. “She rests from her labors and her works do follow her.”
