Another Old Citizen Gone
James Fresham died at his home near Palmyra, Warren County, Iowa, March 28, 1885 of typhoid pneumonia. Mr. Fresham was born in Greenbrier County, Virginia, March 9th, 1829. Went when a boy to Highland County, Ohio, in the fall of 1848, at once commenced to learn the carpenter business, soon became master of the business. He was married to Mary Jane Wright, in Highland County, Ohio, a sister of Jonathan and John Wright, and Mrs. Enos Jury now of Warren County. Mr. Fresham and his wife moved to Warren County in 1854. His wife died in 1890, and left him with five children, one son and four daughters; the children are all grown except the youngest daughter – one daughter married. Mr. Fresham was married a second time to Mrs. Dr. Stewart Macky, of Rockbridge County, Virginia, who is now left with the children at home. He has had his farming carried on and worked at his trade for about thirty-one years in the county. No man in the county can show so many good improvements made by their own hands as can be shown made by the hands of the deceased. He was an energetic man, honorable and upright in all his dealings, a man that could be relied upon under all circumstances, a man of good habits. The writer of this article has been intimately acquainted with him from the time he went to Ohio, up to his death. He went to Ohio a poor boy and by his energy and industry has provided a good comfortable living and home for himself and family. And leaves a good farm well stocked and with good comfortable buildings. No man will be more missed in the neighborhood; a kind husband and father, he leaves an honorable family to mourn his loss.
