Carlisle
The body of Pvt. Everett Powers, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Powers and one of Warren County’s first heroes to fall in the great war, arrived here Saturday morning, accompanied by Pvt. Alfred Lacombe. The body was conveyed to the American Legion hall, where it will be kept, awaiting the arrival of the body of Pvt. Donald Killen, who is expected within the next few days, and in all probability, both funeral services will be held together.
Advocate Tribune, Indianola, Iowa, Thursday, Aug. 11, 1921, p.7, col.2
Military services were held Saturday afternoon at the M. E. Church for Everett Powers conducted by Chaplain Robb of Des Moines, assisted by Chaplain Barr of Pleasantville. The large concourse of neighbors and friends who attended this service showed their honor, love and respect for this brave boy who gave his life for his country in the World War. The members of the American Legion, and of the G. A. R. Post, also a number of the boys from Winterest, Indianola, Hartford, Pleasantville and other adjacent towns, under the command of Sergeant A. J. Sable had charge of the military part of the service which was well carried out. At the close of the service, under the sound of martial music furnished by the Hartford Drum Corps, a long procession slowly and reverently wended its way to the Carlisle Cemetery, and according to military rites the body was laid to rest in its last resting place in the family lot.
Card of Thanks – We wish to extend our thanks and appreciation to the neighbors and friends who were so kind to us upon the arrival, and at the funeral of our dear son, Everett – also for the beautiful floral offerings with which we were so kindly remembered. Mr. and Mrs. George Powers and family.
