Obituary – Zarilda M. Wikle
Zarilda M, the daughter of George and Helen Shelleday, was in Montgomery County, Indiana, March 27th, 1846, and died at Milo, Iowa, August 3rd, 1921, at the age of seventy-five years, four months and six days. In early childhood, with her parents she came to Henry County, Iowa, then to Marion County, and for many years has made her home in Warren County.
On December 27th, 1868, she was united in marriage with John W. Wikle and to this union four children were born, Oren who died, December 14, 1914, William and Lora and Dora, of Milo. Her husband preceded her in death, passing away on February 5th, 1917. The deceased was the last member of a large family. And, with the three children who mourn the loss, in death of their mother, there are six grand children, Howard, Duane and Josephine Wikle, Grace Fulmer, Helen and Henry Wikle and one great grand child, Emil Jene Fulmer. These with a large circle of friends are sorrowful at her death.
The deceased was a Christian woman and her hopes were built on the solid rock, Jesus Christ. At fifteen years of age she was baptized in the Des Moines River and joined the Church of the Disciples of Christ. At the time of her death she was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and was interested in its work and progress. She was a good mother, patient, loving and kind. A good neighbor and friend. The funeral services were held from her late residence on Friday, August 5th, and were conducted by her pastor, Rev. Lucius L. Smith. Interment was made in the Milo Cemetery.
