Donald Lee Selvage
(August 3, 1950 - May 7, 2017)

Don was born on August 3, 1950, in Indianola, Iowa, the son of Virgil and Beverly Selvage. He graduated from Indianola High School in 1968. He married Patricia Robbins October 11, 1968, and had three children: Donald Lee, Jr. "Skip", Deborah Lyn, and Amanda Jean. In 1988, he married Suzi Speelman-Brown. Don enjoyed playing sports in school, but he chose to begin working the summer of 1967 at the Gulf gas station on Indianola's southside. After graduating, he worked at Lennox Manufacturing and Massey Ferguson until both shut down. He was employed at Vesey Construction before settling in at Deluxe Check Printers in the late '70's until the plant closed from the Flood of '93. Then he worked for Kemin Industries, retiring in 2015. Don spent many weekends with his family coaching and playing softball (Gib's A&W, Indianola'69'ers, and Don's Apco). He pitched right handed, but he batted left handed. His teammates called him Don Boy or Daff or Daffy. Once he hung up his glove, he loved being a spectator at his kids's and grandkids' sporting events. Don loved hunting, fishing, the New York Yankees, the Green Bay Packers, the Iowa Hawkeyes, the NCAA basketball tournament, Nascar, sprint car racing, and playing pitch. Annual vacations were important to him, a rest from work.
On May 7, 2017, Don passed away peacefully at Good Samaritan in Indianola of complications from a neurological disease called PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy).
Survivors include his wife, Suzi; son Skip (Shelley) Selvage; daughter Debby (Doug) Thomas; daughter Mandy (Rich) Fetters; 2 step children, Elizabeth(William)Ezell and Michael(Gina)Brown; 9 grandchildren, Tony Hale, Dylon Selvage, and Camie Selvage; Corinne Thomas, Devin Thomas, and Colton Thomas; Austin Fetters, Trenton Fetters, and Samantha Fetters; 3 great-grandchildren: Noah, Jace, and Kira; 3 brothers: Dennis (Debbie) Selvage, Toby (Marsha) Selvage, and Rod (Linda) Selvage; former wife Pat (Richard) Sallman; many nieces, nephews, extended family, and great friends.
