Celebration of life Lucile Goodhue, age 100, of Carlisle, Iowa died peacefully on Sunday afternoon, December 13, at the Good Samaritan Care Center, Indianola, Iowa. Visitation with members of the family will be Friday night from 5 to 7 p.m., December 18 at the Carlisle Methodist. The celebration of life will be 10 a.m., Saturday, December 19, at the United Methodist Church in Carlisle, Iowa with Reverend Jeffrey Frese presiding. Burial will be at the Carlisle Township Cemetery. Online condolences may be made to www.petersonfunerals. com. Lucile was born August 26, 1909 in Carlisle, Iowa. She attended local grade schools, graduated from Hartford High School in 1926 and from Simpson College in 1930 majoring in English. At Simpson, she was involved in many several student activities and was a member of Epsilon Sigma society for academic achievement and the Beta Sigma Omirron Sorority. After graduation, she taught at local county schools and was a popular substitute teacher at the Carlisle High School for many years. Lucile married Wilbur Goodhue and together they developed a successful and highly honored farm operation near Carlisle. Perhaps Lucile's highest passion was 4-H where she served in many leadership positions for the Polk County 4-H Council and participated in numerous statewide activities. She was also active with the Carlisle Methodist Church including teaching and leadership roles. She was active in the community and belonged to the TTK the Carlisle Questors, Order of The Eastern Star, Merry Moments, the Ruth Circle of the Carlisle United Methodist Women. She also was a book reviewer for the Des Moines Public Library. Lucile always loved hunting for treasured antiques and traveled widely with family and with Wilbur. She is preceded in death by her mother, Ermile Hunt; and husband, Wilbur Goodhue. She is survived by one son, Jim Goodhue (Nadine), of Carlisle, Betty Keeney (Dennis) of Ames, and Wanda Hunter (Carroll) of Carlisle; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Memorials in lieu of flowers can be made to the United Methodist Church of Carlisle or the Carlisle Public Library. Peterson Funeral Home Carlisle, Iowa
