Peggy Jean (Grissom) Goodhue, 75, of Carlisle, passed away Saturday, October 17, 2009, at her home. A visitation will be held from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 20, 2009, at the Carlisle United Methodist Church in Carlisle, where the family will be present to receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 21, 2009, at the United Methodist Church in Carlisle. Burial in the Ackworth Cemetery, in Ackworth will immediately follow funeral services.
Peggy Jean Grissom was born in Blakesburg, Iowa on November 20, 1933, to David and Nora (Stewart) Grissom. She attended school in Sewal, Iowa graduating in the class of 1952. Following high school she received her RN degree from Broadlawns School of Nursing in Des Moines. Peggy was united in marriage to Dale C. Goodhue, April 26, 1964, at the First United Methodist Church in Des Moines. Peggy was a devoted wife and mother spending much of her time tending to the needs of her family. Before Debbie came along, Peggy worked outside of the home as a surgical nurse in urology with Dr. William Shinkle. As a long time member of the Carlisle United Methodist Church she actively participated in church life. She served as President of the Carlisle United Methodist Women overseeing food preparations and serving numerous dinners and funeral receptions. She will also long be remembered as a great fundraiser for church and school events especially the nut and cinnamon rolls sales for the Methodist Church. She also served as the president of the Carlisle Band Boosters and was enthusiastic in her efforts to raise funds for new band uniforms. She delivered Meals-on-Wheels and enjoyed any activity where she could better the community of Carlisle. Peggy is survived by her husband, Dale C. Goodhue; one daughter, Debbie Goodhue-Nolte and her husband, Paul; granddaughters, Valerie and Ashton Goodhue-Nolte of Carlisle; one sister, Betty Porter of Clive; a brother, Dick Grissom and his wife Shirley of Mission, Texas along with many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Nora Grissom; two sisters, Lois Ball and husband, Dale; Georgia Ruble and husband, Darl; brother-in-law, George Porter and brother, David L. (Pete) Grissom and wife, Willa Jean.
